Schools Fight Hunger

No child should grow up hungry, but more than 16 million children in America are at risk of hunger. That’s one in five children who struggle with getting enough nutritious food. These kids are sick more often and have a harder time concentrating and performing well in school. Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry® campaign is committing to ending childhood hunger, but we need your school’s help!

No Kid Hungry, Every Kid Healthy – Curriculum Based School Project

No Kid Hungry, Every Kid Healthy is a week-long event in which students will learn facts about childhood hunger, how to make healthier food choices and help other kids get the food they need to grow up strong and healthy. It’s a great learning experience, teaching students not only about their own health and nutrition, but also the value of helping others.

How It Works:
Students earn points each day of the event by completing various Every Kid Healthy activities, such as eating a new vegetable (5 points) or eating all five food groups in one day (5 points). For each activity completed, students track their points and ask friends and family to sponsor them for each point earned. For example, a student could ask their grandparent to pledge 50 cents for each point earned during the week, or Mom and Dad could pledge $1 for every day they complete an Every Kid Healthy activity. Curriculum and recipes from Share Our Strength’s Cooking Matters® is available for download by teachers or parents. At the end of the week, students return their donations to school to help make No Kid Hungry a reality!  Students receive thank you gifts for their hard work starting at $15.

No Kid Hungry, Every Kid Healthy provides a way to teach kids about healthy eating habits while providing learning opportunity surrounding nutrition and helping others who may be struggling with hunger.
